On The Radar: Figue Pop-Up Shop on Abbot Kinney

Summer pop-up store with a gypsy surfer vibe on quite possibly the coolest street in America? Yes. Please.

Introducing Figue on Abbot Kinney, our new favorite one-stop-boho-shop to prep for all of our upcoming vacations or quite simply live the vacation lifestyle while home in Los Angeles. Their Nolita shop in New York has a jet-set cult following so we were quite pleased to hear they were bringing their outpost to the West coast for the summer. It is an ideal fit in Venice, California where shirt and shoes may be optional but shaggy beards and skateboards are mandatory.

Founder, Stephanie von Watzdorf is quite the gypsy herself. Born in France to a German/French father and Russian mother, she spent her early years in Paris and Southern Italy before graduating from Parsons School of Design in New York. Stephanie is no stranger to fashion working for some of the most iconic houses including Yves Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren and Tory Burch. This stylish pedigree mixed with Stephanie’s keen eye for finding beauty in forgotten places is what makes Figue so appealing.

So what does Figue (pronounced “fig” by the way) have to offer? With it’s bright white walls and floors, it reflects more of a worldly art gallery than retail shop. Each piece is carefully chosen to reflect Stephanie’s own well-traveled aesthetic. Beautiful kaftans and tunics hang with custom leather carry-alls, hand cobbled shoes, small leather goods and handpicked lifestyle products that embody Figue’s international gypset spirit.

Everything imperative in bringing your vacation home is here. On our own to-buy list are the one of a kind, hand embellished military jackets and limited edition accessories. It’s a little slice of retail heaven for us wanterlusters.

So after a leisurely stroll on AK, make sure you pop-in to this majorly cool pop-up. Because just like summer, this fleeting jewel of a shop will be gone before we know it.
