A Latin American Honeymoon That Will Make You Head South of the Equator

Being a Bikini Bride isn’t just about working out, eating healthy meals, and working hard to look amazing on the big day. It’s also making sure we jetset to luxurious destinations and relax in style after the wedding of our dreams. Sara Klinger, a marketing consultant for JetSuite, had a one of a kind wedding reception and a glamorous honeymoon in Uruguay, Chile, and Argentina. Sara told us some of the best spots to visit in South America, some bridal tips, as well as her go-tos in her travel bag.

BC: So, how did you meet your husband?

SK: Um actually, he’s my boss.

BC: Is that right?

SK: Yeah, that’s always a good story. He runs a private jet charter company called JetSuite. And they hired me about 5 years ago as a marketing consultant so I kind of helped build the brand and then you know, things just happened from there! We still work together.

BC: That’s so great. How long ago was your wedding?

SK: It was November 7th, so just a few months ago.

BC: Wow, congratulations! Where was your wedding?

SK: We threw our reception at SmogShoppe in Culver City. We actually threw an engagement party—well we told everyone it was an engagement party because we didn’t want to go through the over-the-top wedding party gifts and stuff. We got engaged in July in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and we kind of just planned this party fairly quickly. Then an hour in, we announced to everyone that we were going to get married there and then from there we had the full wedding reception.

BC: That is so cool! And where did you end up going on your honeymoon?

SK: We went to Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay.

BC: Wow!

SK: [chuckles] Yeah, we tried to fit a lot in two weeks.

BC: I’m like you. I’d do the exact same thing. So which of those places was your most favorite?

SK: There’s a beach town in Uruguay called Jose Ignacio. And it’s kind of becoming more popular, I think they call it San Tropez meets the Hamptons. And it was just to die for. It’s a beach town, but it’s kind of ritzy so you know you have really cool restaurants right on the sand and they’re beautifully done and it’s kind of a jet set crowd. That’s by far my favorite spot.

BC: That sounds amazing. So of all of those places in Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile, are there any off the beaten path spots or places not a lot of people go to that we should know about?

SK: Yeah, we went to this area in Chile called the Casablanca Valley that’s between the coast and Santiago and it is all wine regions. It looks like Napa in a way. They’re known for their Sauvignon Blancs and it’s just so much more casual but equally as beautiful as Napa and so much more affordable. The wines are just incredible so we spent a few days going through that part of the country.

BC: Did you prepare for the wedding in any way? Any work outs, added beauty sleep, or any other tips we can let our readers in on? We hear you are a big yoga fan.

SK: Oh yeah! I have been doing yoga for about 6 years, but before I got married, I did do BIKINI CLEANSE and of course, amped up the yoga.

BC: Great! How did the BIKINI CLEANSE go for you? Did you enjoy it?

SK: Great, I love it. I mean, I can’t not eat. I tried. I did a juice cleanse once and at four o’clock I ended up eating spaghetti and meatballs. [laughs] So that’s my one day juice cleanse experience. But I loved that you could still eat and feel healthy. And that it tastes good. And I like that it’s not a product that you don’t eat or just drink, it’s a supplement to your routine not a one and only thing. I had a tight wedding dress, so you know, I wanted to be skinny.

BC: Ooh, what kind of dress did you have?

SK: Well I wanted to have a Bohemian kind of look. There’s this brand out of Australia called Grace Loves Lace. They’re kind of the opposite of the big ball gown, which I love those as well but, with the whole engagement party surprise that style seemed more fitting.

BC: Do you have any advice to future brides about wedding planning or when traveling with your new husband?

SK: Hmm. I mean to me, the goal of our honeymoon was to do part total relaxation, where we went somewhere and did nothing but laying around, go out to great dinners, and lounge, and part explore to cities and places with activities and do it in kind of off the beaten path areas. And I think not necessarily going somewhere local if you can afford it and you’re able or save up some miles is a great way to kick off your marriage and just be alone together.

BC: So a real emphasis on the honeymoon is definitely the way to go.

SK: [laughs] Yeah, for sure.

BC: I’m sure working for a jet company that travel is a big part of your life. I heard you have a blog called Enlightened Escapade. Could you tell me a little bit about that?

SK: Yes! People are always asking me what restaurant should I go to. I just started bullet pointing all of my favorite cities and places all over the world. Mostly hotels and restaurants. I’ve been doing that for about two to three years now.

BC: Awesome, we have to check out some of those places. Lastly, do you have any must-haves for these luxury travel destinations? Any products or statement pieces?

SK: Yes, for flights I always bring natural melatonin And I have a silk eye mask so it doesn’t leave lines when I sleep as well as a black pashmina because I could use it as a blanket on the plane or wind it up as a scarf if it’s cold.

BC: Great tips! We can’t wait to use them on our next destination!
